MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - 14 CUX Re-chip

Anyone got a reliable fuel consumption figure for any of the of-the-shelf replacement chips ? Experience makes me wary of the advertised claims.
R Walker

they are very expensive and I can't help thinking why would Rover, and their top notch engineers, put an inferior chip in their cars?
The MG V8 conversion has an engine in it designed for a car significantly more than twice the weight. You have to lighten up the fly wheel of course but other than that it will go like a rocket, out of the box. I have not fitted the oxygen sensors (yet) and I find fuel consumption on the EFI V8 to be less than the 1800 4 cylinder with is ancient thirsty SU's. As if fuel economy was why you put a V8 in your MGB :)

Peter Sherman

Peter,
Consumption is less than the 1800 at speeds above 75mph - even'though it is programmed to 'drive' 2+ tons. It could use less fuel to propel just over one ton but in order to do so the fuel system needs different instructions - hence the rechip. However, development is an advanced business and there seems to be no record of any great improvement either in power output or economy - hence my question.

..and no... fuel economy was not the main concern twenty years back when petrol cost half what it does now.

Roger

..and if the damned thing would wear out, I would have good reason to replace it.
