MG MGA - whats next----steering rack
| Hey all, having the good advice from my previous posting, here is my next dilemma. How does one evaluate the condition of the rack & pinion assembly? Also, I see that Moss sells the entire unit, had anyone had experience with it? Thanks again, Tom |

| Put the front of the car on jack-stands with the wheels of the ground. Try turning the wheel from "lock to lock", if it turn that's a good start. Next with one front wheel on the ground, grab the other at "nine & three o'clock"; look for play at rack when you try to shake the road wheel. Do both sides. Any play that you may have can be corrected. Then take the rack out of the car, remove the rubber gaiters and clean any GREASE out of the rack. If there was no play in the rack, then replace the gaiters and put GEAR OIL in the rack. If you have end play in the rack, Barney Gaylord's site is the place to go for how to fix it! |
