MG MGA - Under dash stays
I'm puzzled. How many stays or struts are supposed to be fitted holding the lower edge of the dash? I have places for two but I have four stays. Did I buy an extra pair many years ago before dementia set in or am I missing something? Dan

Dan - I believe there are 4 support brackets for the dash. 1 RH side, 1 LH side. and 2 spaced closer together in the center, at each side of the heater control panel. Fran

The bolts that hold the heater facia in place screw into the centre stays. There are four tabs on the bottom of the dash - each takes a stay

Thanks Guys. I guess I'll have to crawl under there again.

There should also be four caged 10-32 nuts along the width of the heater shelf at the back to take the front brace fixing screws. Make sure you put the centre two braces with the vertical upstand towards the outside of the body in case you want to use an original type loudspeaker box because the box fits across the two braces using the four holes drilled in the braces. I don't think the similar holes in the outside braces are used unless for fixing harness clips maybe. Also make sure that you bend the stays upwards close to the front ends and remote from the four holes (middle two) otherwise you won't be able to fix the loudspeaker box....................Mike
