MG MGA - Turn signal lamp holder
| Can someone tell me the correct size for the dash hole for the turn signal lamp? How does the lamp holder affix to the dash? Finally does the current Moss offering 142-400 include all of the parts needed? Thanks, John

Original lamp jewel had a 9mm thread, so the hole in the dash panel is a 9-mm double-D hole. The Moss replacement lamp assembly has 8-mm thread, so it will fit loose in the dash hole, needing some attention to centering my hand. The Moss lamp kit is complete but does not include the chrome trim ring (that washer is available separately). For complete details see here: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/faulty/ft012.htm

It looks like you need to weld up the hole and repair the crack in the dash. Clean up the hole and weld a 8mm washer in it. Using a washer would make a clean looking repair. I assume the dash is coming out to be repaired and repainted?

Barney, thanks for the info. RJ, I am beginning to think it will be easier and more cost effective to pick up a used dash. In addition to the bodged turn signal hole, I have a couple of other misplaced holes and other dents and dings. John

Any good body shop should be able to fill in the odd hole or two. Perhaps a local friend would do it for a six-pack. It is just basic bodywork.
