MG MGA - Thick vs. Thin Return Springs on rear brakes
| Naturally after you take things apart, a few days later you begin to doubt your memory as you put them back together. I'm putting on new shoes on the rear and have the thick return spring on the side by the adjuster, with the thin attached across the "abutment". See picture below. Just want to make sure I've got it right before I button it all up. - Ken

| I also can never remember where the return springs should fit when I am refitting the brake shoes. My excuse is that it is a job I only get to do every few years. I usually mark the holes in the shoes and the matching spring ends with paint to remind me where they go. The best way is to take a picture with your digital camera and then memory is not so important! Colyn |

| You are definitely right Ken. The lighter spring goes on the pivot end, the strong brake return spring on the cylinder end. Nice shoe retaining springs!! |

| Thanks - now I can remember in the future by just going into the archives and finding this thread, along with my picture :) Lindsay - those are new retaining springs - from Scarborough Faire. - Ken |
