MG MGA - Rear wheel bearing seals and spacers

Am in the process of replacing rear wheel bearings and seals on my wire wheeled MGA

A few discrepancies have appeared.

My inner hubs have slots to take thin rubber seals ( apparently NOT fitted on wire wheeled cars according to some sources )

Also, when I removed the bearings etc, there were no spacers - as shown fitted only for solid wheeled cars)

When all are replaced , there is a gap of between the the bearing face and the face of the shaft plate of about 1mm.
Should that be taken up by the "missing" spacer? As there appears to be about a 4/5mm gap from the bearing face to the inner face of the bolted on shaft face.

I wouldnt be surprised if in the past, someone had dickered with the set up , eg, when I pulled the brake drums off, I discovered that in one side, there was only one shoe. All neatly fitted etc but about as useless as hip pocket in an athletic support!

Any clues as to whether I should fit spacers? And has anyone any experience of this?
Thanks in advance

an addenda from Cecilia at Scarborough F

The H43 Bearing spacers are fitted ONLY to Disc (steel) wheel cars. NOT
wire wheel models.
The height of those metal spacers rings are 3/16" thick.
They are only reqd for disc wheel cars because with the steel wheel axle
shafts the outer flat part of the shaft has a recessed hollow on the
underside, whereas on the wire wheel hub that sits on the inner wheel
bearing hub it is absolutely flat. If you were to fit this spacer you
would not be able to bolt down the wire wheel splined hub completely.
I have taken a look at several MGA rear inner hubs that still have the
rear wheel bearing fitted in the hub and there is a slight space of
maybe 1 mm, so just assemble the parts the way they are, NO Spacer.

The later MGAs that have a a bearing carrier with slots do require large rubber "O" rings as well as the paper gasket. there are also sealed bearings the can be used; Cecilia has them.
