MG MGA - RainX

A while ago I started a thread asking how to make wipers follow the curve of a coupe windscreen. Thanks to the comments received my wipers are improved although not 100%. The subject of RainX came up that I've now applied to the glass and can report that I've found it very effective. To those owners not yet acquainted with this product I can recommend its use. In the event of wiper failure I think it would be possible to see clearly enough to drive the car but it also greatly improves the way the wipers clear the screen of water. All to do with surface tension and dispersing the rain drops into smaller particles -I think?

Yep, Rainex is a great product for an MG. In many cases you don't even have to use the wipers. So the wipers become the backup for failed Rainex rather than the other way around.

Recently, I have found that some brands of windshield washer fluid now contain a small amount of Rainex in them. I have switched my DD to whatever brand that is ( I think I got it at Walmart). Now I don't even have to remember to treat the windshield. It is done automatically.

Cheers!

That's a thought. Could I add a few drops to my own mix in the water bottle to good effect?

The problem I find this time of the year with my plastic sports screen is that the stuff that is hitting the screen is usually a salty gritty mix spray from the road. This stuff tends to dryout on impact nullifying the effect of RainX. Quite a pain because the wipers scratch the plastic surface if the contaminant is other than pure rain.

Rainex makes great products, including a product that you add directly to the washer resivoir, use about half of what they recommend on the bottle: about 2 oz per gallon of washer fluid.
Excellent products, including wiper blades.
