MG MGA - Farina fuel tank sender unit

Hello, I am normally on the MGB site but I have a 1964 MGB which shares a lot of parts with the MGA, including the fuel tank.

I have been having problems getting a decent fuel tank sender unit. I have bought one from the US via ebay, really great with, it is claimed, the original twin contacts on the resistance wire inside. This is probably wonderful but unfortunately there is no thread in one of the holes for the cover plate and the thing leaks like a sieve. Unfortunately I tried to seal my original with epoxy resin after attempts with home made gaskets failed.

So it is time to look at alternatives. Has anyone fitted a Farina (MG-Magnette IV, Morris Oxford, Austin Cambridge etc.) sender unit?
Mike

Why not tap out the missing thread and use the new one. Otherwise, why not make a good one from the two.

I am sure i have a good one in the cellar that is just missing the threaded stud on the bottom - even has a metal float too as far as I remember.

Otherwise the Morris Minor originals fit, just bend the float arm to match the MGA one. I'm pretty sure that's how the one in my car was obtained 20 years ago..

Thanks, Dominic, I'll have to see how much "meat" there is round the stripped hole. I have just seen the thread "Fuel gauge/sender problem - any ideas?" on this board, I didn't know the senders were different.

Mike,
I know for certain the later B sender was 20-220 ohms and worked backwards from the MGA sender. Not 100% certain about the early B's, but Moss has different part numbers for the MGA and 63/64 B senders.
