MG MGA - Door Pull Cable Length?

Does anyone know what the exact length the door pull cables should be?

I purchased some new ones a while back and on the closest adjusting hole they are very tight and preventing the lock mechanism from fully disengaging.

I dug out three old used original cables, two of which are in excellent shape, but they all measured the same. Outer cable length is 17 3/8" and inner (to inside edge of the soldered "ball") just under 18 1/2".
