MG MGA - body to chassis
Hi all, Friday I have reunited the body and the chassis(a milestone after 3 years).I used a Moss packing set. But I have a question. On the mounting points comes a piece of cork about 2mm thick, on the side members comes a piece of rubber foam about 10mm thick. The height difference between the underside of the mounting points on the body and the underside of the sillplate is about 4mm. The rubber strip in the Moss kit is rather hard. Is there not a chance to deform the sillplate(and the sill)by compressing the foam rubber with the mounting bolts. After all the sillplate is only sheetmetal and supported on one side. Can someone tell me his experience please. Thanks, Herman

Hi Herman I have the body also from the chassis, the rubber i have is from anglo parts and is rather soft, i think there is no problem here to compress the rubber. serge http://www.car-identification-plate.eu/

Herman the rubber should not be 'very' hard -- it must be able to compress as the body tub is loaded. I have made and used many of these packing kits without any trouble and found that the metal has supported the body without deformation. I always check the hold-down bolts for thightness, after the car has done a few miles, just to be satisfied all is well. Just pull it down firmly and check it later. Barry.
