MG MGA - Blower motor bushings.

I have managed to disassemble the blower motor thanks to Barney. The bushings were frozen to the armiture shaft and came out of thier self-centering housing, both front and rear. How does on get them back in properly? Thanks, Tom

Press back into place. If the springy retaining washers are broken you will need new ones, and right offhand I do not know where to get them. Search time!

Thanks Barney, it appears that the retaining washers are intact. It also looks like the "well" is not deep enough to allow the bushing to get under the retaining washers from the "front"? BTW, the pages on your site are wonderful. Regards, Tom

Place the spherical bushing in the pocket. Place the springy retaining washer on top of the bushing. Use a thin wall tubular punch that fits just inside of the outer edge of the washer. The inside fingers of the washer rest on the bushing. As you push the washer down the fingers are forced to spring upward slightly. The outer edge of the washer is locked into place by press fit in the housing while the spring fingers hold the bushing firmly in place. You may need to realign the bushing coaxial before installing the armature.

Hey Barney and all, I managed to get the retaining washer and the "springy" washer out after seeing that they were held in by 4 little "tabs" cut about 1/2 way through the inside wall of the "pocket".

One of the "springy" washers is cracked between two segments. I will re-use it as searching has not turned up a replacement.

I'm not sure that I saved any money over a replacment motor but I now have a new skill set.

Again, thanks to Barney for his site.

Regards, Tom, TC2850, '53TD, '60 MGA & '73B.
