MG MGA - Beer.....and front bumper

Greetings all,

For those who have yet begun the process of installing the front bumper....an essential tool, an absolute must have, is beer! Lots of beer! Or other drug of choice to help keep your frustration level from escalating to beyond functioning! Gees, what a convoluted system that is!

And, after getting it assembled (four hands required)and everything all lined up across the front...it doesn't even function as a "real bumper". The slightest bump and the front is damaged. Good luck to all who have yet reached this step in your restoration and cudos to those who have done so without killing someone or having to be admitted into the hospital for observation!

More beer please!!!!!

Hi and season greeting
And did you wonder, what are the rubber things, covering valance opening for? since you can not see them?

Robert,
I sense your frustration, and I side with you regarding the beer, but I haven't found the bumper job to be that awful. I've done it several times, by myself. Most recently just before leaving for GT35. True, it can be a bit fussy, figuring how many washers to use and getting the nuts in place. Also, it requires a couple of fit-ups to get it right. No doubt, extra hands would help. Removing, or at least loosening the two outer studs that are screwed to the frame extension makes the job much easier. Plus, drinking the beer(s) after the job is done is also helpful!...;)
Oh the rubber things? They're there to prevent vortex build-up, caused by air-flow thru the holes during high speed runs, from unsettling the car. A little known fact....;)~
Cheers,

Got the darn thing on and it actually looking rather nice but the back edge of the bumper was rubbing the valance? Looked around and...yep, the dang rubber thingys that Martin was asking about were lying on the garage floor behind me! Vortex my butt! As Martin said, being located as they are, nobody would ever notice them not being in place.....but I would know. So, off with the darn bumper to go through the fitment all over again. MORE BEER PLEASE!

Cheers!

Don't forget to invoke the mechanic's magic incantation:

G*d D*mn M*th*r F*ck*n' S*n *f * B*tch!

Works every time. :-)
