MG MGA - Another Temperature Question

I saw a post from 2009 that several people (including Gerry Foster) had gone to a V-core by Maine radiator. Now that several years have gone by I'd like to know if they are satisfied with the results - I'm contemplating replacing my Moss unit with one.

Some years ago an Australian core manufacturer recalled all MGA's that had recently been recored with tube/finned cores and had them recored (free of charge) using the original cellular type (probably in response to complaints re overheating). One of my MGA's was one of them and I can report that this made absolutely no difference to the overheating problem! I have my MGA radiators removed and cleaned out every, say, four or five years (at the first sign of overheating) and this seems to overcome the problem. I think that some cars overheat even after this has been done (it may be a grille slat issue in such cases). I entered my 1600 roadster at the Silverstone concours some years ago and my car was the only one that did not have an accessory electric fan!

With our MK-II, as part of the restoration in 04-05 I replaced the original (now gone) with a new Moss unit. For the first year, it ran fine, even through the Key West Regional in '06 (hot, but not beyond 212F. In the last few years it has gotten increasingly hotter, running beyond 220F in any slow traffic. I've done all the usual "best practices", but find my trips all to be centered around worrying about overheating - including a run into the oil pressure range during the '08 Key West Regional.

I've considered installing another new Moss unit, but would like to have a longer range solution. Hopefully the V-Core from Maine Radiator is it, but I'd like to get feedback from other users of it.

One nice trip was last July - August to Cape Breton in Nova Scotia - temps in the 60's and 70's. Nothing like being north and near the water :)

More about that trip here: www.waterviewgroup.com/MGA -

This year we are planning an August trip to Quebec City, and I'd like to have the temperature problem behind us, as most of the trip will be in warmer areas.

There is a guy,John Coreya that makes aluminum 4 row rads for MGA racing. He lives in Malone NY. maybe he could produce a core, that is more efficient for a standard size MGA rad.
