MG MGA - 8 Days to get the dizzy out
| Finally got it out today. Cleaned up the sleeeve and intalled the new one. Got her to gallop a little but not start. Cylinders were soaked pretty good with Liquid Wrench prior. Like I said a gallop or two, few backfires. I'm thinking my temp fuel supply isnt giving enough pressure -- only about one foot of gravity in 1/4" hose. At one point I had a smoke come out of the forward carb. Wouldnt this mean an intake valve was still open at ignition? I took off the valve cover and all the valves appears to be rocking properly. Any advice/experience with this sort of thing? I havent done anything to the carbs except make sure the pistons moved freely. And make sure the throttle and choke are moving the proper bits. |

| Have you checked the ignition timing? Are you sure all the plug leads are in the correct firing order. The MGA SU requires only minimal pressure to operate at low RPM. Mick |

| Set the ignition timing correctly. It is very easy to do and if you don't know how to do that then ask Check the firing order again very simple stuff. When all that is correct then the problem is the carbs. If the carbs do not have fuel then that naturally will require sorting but must admit your problem does sound like the fuel is weak. Are the choke levers working correctly? I have occassionally dripped neat fuel into the carb throats when I have suspected a fuel problem. |

| Rather than use fuel in the carby throats, which can be dangerous, I use an aerosol spray called Aerostart (see image). This is much easier to spray into carby throats and it contains more highly volatile components than gasoline. It works like magic and is safe. Mick
