MG MGA - 48 spoke 2.5 inch offset
| Hi there, I have a single 15 inch 5.5J 48 spoke steel wire wheel. It is middle and outer laced, not like a standard outer laced 48 spoke and with an offset of 2.5 inches, not 3.5 inches. The lacing looks as per a 60 spoke only with 48 spokes. Can anyone tell me what this wheel is from please?.... and where I can find another 3 or 4 ! Thank you. |

| Could be early Triumph TR6 or TR 250 15X5.5J or 15X6J. Not sure about the radial lace pattern though. I have the 15x6J on my A and they worked well since 1969. I replaced them with Daytons a couple of years ago, treated the old rat with Chrome 72 spoke tubeless. Correct offset. Very stable and strong, really looks great! My old wheels measure 5.5 at the bottom of the flange next to the flat of the rim, and 6 at the top of the flange or outside diameter of the rim. http://www.daytonwirewheels.com/britishcars.html Russ |

| I ran out of time to update the previous, ran out and did some more measuring. Again: It could be early Triumph TR6 or TR 250 15X5.5J 60 spoke or 15X6J 72 spoke. MGC had 15x5J. I had the 15x6J 72 spoke from TR6 on my A and they worked well from 1969 until I replaced them with Daytons a couple of years ago. I had to park the A for about 10 years with out access to it to roll it around and they were quite out of round when I was able to get it running again. I treated the old rat with Chrome 15X6J 72 spoke (TR6) tubeless. Correct offset, no clearance problems, very stable and strong, great stance, they really look great! My old wheels measure 5.5" accross the inner bottom of the flange next to the flat of the rim, and 6" accross the inner top of the flange or outside diameter of the rim where they contact the tire. Measures approx. 3.5" from inner flange to flat of the hub (to accomodate the wider wheel). http://www.daytonwirewheels.com/britishcars.html BTW, keep one of the 48 spoke 4" with a skinny tire for a spare, no way will the 6J fit in the spare tire position on the A! | Hi Russ, Thank you for the reply. This wheel is 48 spoke with a 2.5 inch offset, so the hub/spinner sits right in almost like a 50s Borrani. I will try to add a photo here... Cheers, Rupert. |
