MG MGA - 1600 Wiring Harness puzzler
I'm putting a new, Moss, wiring harness in my 1600. The rear harness, wires that go to tail lights, there are three black (ground) wires for each light assembly (tail light and indicator/stop). I would normally only expect two, one for each light bulb. Curiously, two of the ends on each side are the same wire. It apparently loops back inside the harness. I checked it with a meter. The third ground wire runs out to the connector, as expected. It appears that to make the ground connection for the tail light I will need to attach one end of the ground "loop" to the negative terminal at the tail light and the other end of the ground "loop" along with the "through" wire the indicator/stop lamp terminal to compete the ground path to the connector. Is this normal? This is my first 1600 harness. The harness I removed just had two gound wires for each light assembly. But it was sort of a patch job done by a previous owner, so I don't know. I know this a probably a bit confusing. Has anyone else seen this? Seems odd to me. Cheers, Gerry

Apparently you have only a single black wire running across the back. The functionally important thing is to get all black wires connected together(and to chassis ground), and connect a black wire to each lamp fixture. Install a double snap connector there to connect the two wires together, then connect a black ground wire to each fixture.

Until I read Barney’s post I was thinking that you might have over looked the plate light.
