MG MGA - 1600 Cylinder Head needed
Hi all Just had a really good day with Peter Burgess on his rolling road. Such a lovely helpful man with his colleague Keith getting the mixture and timing improved on my car. His rolling road set up is excellent and although nothing made much difference to the torque curve, with leaner jets and playing with the timing a lot, it will help the consumption a lot. The downside was that he noticed that I have a cracked cylinder head and have another leak from the rear hub! So I am now looking for a 1600 head casting number 976 (If my memory serves me right from this morning!) with 15 cast on the rear right face. I know other castings will fit but I'm really really fussy and would like the same casting as my original. It was a real shock to hear that its just not worth trying to repair them. If anyone has one they would be prepared to sell please let me know. Bob West has some modified rear hub seals now, smaller diameter and lip position moved, which I have ordered and look forward to getting results with. Its funny how for 35 years I had no real problems with the car and then after a major rebuild everything goes pear shaped! Thanks John Thanks

I have a cylinder head complete with valves and rockers. It came off my 1600 Mk 1 when it was fitted with a Xflow. Looks quite good to me. I don't think it's unleaded. Where do I find the casting number you refer to? Anyone interested would have to collect from Kingston (unless they can suggest a really good pub within striking distance.) Am not greedy but would anyone like to suggest a reasonable price.

Casting number is on the valve deck, under the cover. There is also the "15" cast outside the cover
