MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - ZT-T Tyre Noise - Options?

I've just purchased a ZT-T 190+, one of maybe only a handful in NZ. The car is fabulous, a real revelation. However, given the coarse chip on NZ roads, the tyre roar is terrible (a known issue with ZT-Ts, but really bad on our roads). I have Conti 225/45/18s all round, but only the front tyres need replacing. Two questions:

1. Is there are quieter tyre in the 225/45/18 size?

2. Even if there is a quieter tyre, what has the experience been with mixing tyre brands?

Thanks

Karl

My car is on Bridgestones. Thet are cheaper than the original Michelins but the Michelins were definately quieter.

you may want to swap the tyre sizes.

Put the unworn rears on the front and fit wider 245/40R18s to the rear. More manufacturers make 245s and as a result the prices are lower. I dont know it it will reduce road noise though, that's not a question I often have to consider!
Recommend turning up the radio?

You cannot put wider tyres on a ZT because they will rub against the wheel arch liner when you turn the steering in full lock. Unfortunatley the noise is a characteristic of the car.

Dunlop was suppposed to have brought out a special tyre for the ZT but I don't know if it is any quiter or not.
You cannot put smaller wheels on ZT's either because they will not fit over the brake calipers.

hope this helps.

Thanks Martyn for your advice. I have now fitted Falken tyres to the front, which seem to be OK - they are reputed to be a quiet tyre.
