MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - ZT-T (Diesel Engine Cut Out)

Hi

A friend of mine has a ZT-T Estate Diesel and the engine keeps cutting out whenever he accelerates hard from 50mph. The engine light comes on, and then the engine dies. If he then lifts off the throttle the whole things comes back to life again.

He said that some mechanic told him that it could be an air valve that is not opening properly and the ECU is then cutting the engine in panic due to the engine not getting air.... anyone have any ideas?

Mechanic's explanation sounds plausible to me. But I am no expert on diesel engines (on a sharp learning curve with mine!)

I had this, but not all the time. Fixed (online to Longbridge in good old days) by new mass flow meter and new throttle potentiometer.
