MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - ZR Tyre Size
Has anyone replaced the existing ZR 160 tyre (205/45x17) with a 215/40x17 tyre? Does it fit without fouling anything? Cheers, DC

what size do you run on the racer? at what point will you put too much rubber on the road? mind the tumble weed dan

205/620R17, which is almost identical to a 205/45 road tyre... The advantage of going to the 40-series tyre is greater choice (of manufacturer) and cheaper prices. For example, the Toyo T1-R is about £20 cheaper in 215/40 compared to 205/45. And it'll accelerate quicker, thanks to the smaller diameter. DC

Hi, DC! I don't onw a ZR, but I used to run my Mk1 ZS180 on 215/40s. This tyre size is the absolute limit for the 7" rims. Since I was using my ZS for track days I bought some 7.5" rims for these tyres, as you risk rolling the tyres off the rims on the 7" ones. These tyres/rims were a very close fit on the ZS and I did get some fouling of the wheel arches liners on the front and wheel arches on the back when cornering hard. Ralph BTW for those that don't know, this is the ZR DC, not the F1 DC ;)

Just the sort of practicle advice I was looking for! Will stick with the 205's. Thanks, David www.mgtrophy.co.uk
