MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - ZR remote door mechanism

On my new ZR160, one needs to almost poke the remote locking/unlocking "bulb" into the drivers door before the security system operates. I have changed batteries, but no difference. On most remote systems, these can be activated from several metres away. What can the problem be...please don't advise to have it checked under warranty, as here in Australia we hav'nt had the luxury of replacement warranty systems as in the UK..our only warranty is for mechanical parts, which does'nt include electrical!

Sorry, I have no solution, but if it is any consolation I think the shorter the range the better.

I would hate to have a long-range remote locker, as you could be many meters away from your car, accidentally unlock it, and you would not even know!

There is a trick however, if you put the remote fob against your temple, and press it, the range is increased by a good margin. And this is not a joke to make you look a drongo :o)

Are you only having a problem with the boot ? Do the doors open ok ? If so, then don't for get that you have to hold the boot button down for it to open, it's not a case of one little pulse on the button and it will open, hold it down for at least a second.

Not an unusual condition to find on many of the late series facelift ZRs (and ZS with the round three button remote and 5D VINs.

Now whether this can be helped as applied to the very early MGF where the aerial wire from the 5AS alarm ecu was previously coiled and when stretched out gave better reception I don't know. Certainly these new fobs don't respond to the party trick boost of placing the fob against the underside of the chin or other part of the head etc as was the case for the older fobs.
