MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - ZR manual boot release kit

I have one of the last ZR's with the fob operated boot release. This can be a real pain at times, and I have noticed on Ebay that there was a conversion kit sold that enables you to use a manual method as well. Has anyone any idea where these kits are obtainable from, and if they are any good?
Interestingly the 2005 cars were advertised as having both electronic and manual boot release, but the manual part never made the car, it seems!

Sorry no experience to bring to bear here - having owned a 214SLi with a normal release!

But the good news is that a manual release cable ought to be very easy to engineer yourself from some bicycle brake cable and a suitable lever... This is, effectively, the set up used in the ZS 5-door. We've got a 2004 model in the family - and it does have the manual release...

A good source of parts could be an old R400 5dr...

The last ZRs were supposed to have a release button on the wiper arm/handle as per BMWs and the Rover 75 Tourer. However, doubts over the strength of the arm and a drive to reduce costs saw this totally logical and useful feature deleted. As if it were going to save the company fortunes..............
