MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - Police Mode
Saw a thread somewhere mentioning a Police mode for the ZS. Can anyone shed any light as to what it is and what performance enhancements it might offer? Will it make my spangly black ZS180 more of a monster?

Police Mode has been discussed to death over the last 2-3 months with two sides to the argument. (1) Roger Parker posted a lengthy article explaining the technical side of things and how it would improve torque at lower revs, especially on the VVC engine. As a result, many Zed owners had theirs adjusted by the dealers. (2) Jerry Flint and others on the Xpower BBS have apparently heard direct from MGR that Police Mode does absolutely nothing and there's no performance increase to be had. Further, that there is a security issue in that the immobiliser no longer arms passively. As far as I know, there is know scientific evidence available to confirm or deny either. What I would say is that some ZR160 owners claim to have noted a performance increase but most agree it could be a psychological thing. A few do swear blind that their Zeds do not accelerate quicker. I had my ZR120+ switched into Police Mode the second day I got it so I can't comment on the before and after comparisons. However, what I would confirm is that the immobiliser DOES STILL ARM PASSIVELY just as it did before hand and thus there is no security issue to concern yourself with, at least on the ZR. It's a case of the scales and seeing which side you want to jump! Sorry can't be much more help! F

I think it would be an idea to ask Roger Parker to test it using a rolling road. How about it Rog? Would make a good story for the MG mag you write for! Mega

Cheers for the info...I'll have a trawl through the archives but for now will leave it I think. 11 miles and just finding out how much fun roundabouts can be again, and this after owning and F for the last 3 years and thinking I was having to get sensible. ;) Mark
