MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - MGs on Track - North Weald Activity Day

MGs on Track are organising an "activity" day on Friday 30th January 2004.

The day will be run by Andy Walsh of 1stLotus who runs driver training days at North Weald Airfield, near the junction of the M25 and the M11. (see www.1stlotus.co.uk/airfield.htm), but instead of their four or two person day this is a 40 car 'activity' day at just £25 per car.

It's a great day that allows you to find the limits of your car and your ability to control it in the safety of an empty piece of tarmac surrounded by nothing but grass. It provides a perfect opportunity for track day virgins or novices to find their feet and build their confidence. It's also great fun for experienced drivers.

I've done a couple of these days and they normally include something like:

1. high speed 90 degree left hand bend - useful for practicing 'on the edge handling' otherwise known as spinning!
2. slalom course - against the clock
3. small circuit laid out using cones on a large patch of tarmac - against the clock
4. drag strip for two cars - head to head
5. straight with 180 degree turn at one end and a figure of eight at the other - against the clock

Activities 1 and 2 will probably run in the morning and 3, 4 and 5 in the afternoon. That's the way it's been when I've done it before. Andy Walsh the driving instructor from 1stLotus is on hand to give you tips and advice, especially on handling the 90 degree bend.

You need no experience, no helmets and no preparation for your car - as long as it's roadworthy! You'll find plenty of good company and benefit from Andy Walsh's coaching as you enjoy the activities.
