I had a similar problem in that when putting the key and turning it-all tha lights came up, but when the key was turned to the "start" position, noyhing changed. The lights allstayed at the same brightness but no sounds of any relays or starter motor activety.

Problem was traced to an arc corroded lug on the starter end of the battery cable hidden by the plastic sleeve on the lug.

Re-making the terminal cured the problem. No starting problems for nearly a year now. Hope this idea helps.

Why post twice? Read the other thread.

This fault *will* prevent cranking, but connecting jump leads to the battery wouldn't make any difference. Neither would it have stopped relays operating, but then maybe you couldn't hear them anyway. It *will* leave lights at their full brightness as there is no load from the starter to pull the battery voltage down, as is inevitable to some extent when cranking.
