MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - MG ZR stepspeed transmission

Concern over performance of gearbox.MG ZR stepspeed.
When on a slope, in gear, engine running and brakes not on, the car will run backwards down a hill.
Is this normal for this car.
If so, are there any suggestions for safe hill starts

Totally normal, I'm afraid - a design limitation of the geabox.

Safe hill starts? Hold it on the hand or foot brake and release the brake when you are throttling the engine ready to go.
