MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - MG Central Locking Motor

Hi

I am looking for some help I have a 2003 MG ZR and have just started to experience a problem with the central locking. When using the transmitter remotes I am hearing crunching noise and the car seems to struggle to lock then finally locks itself.

I am trying to find out if anyone else has experienced the same problem so that I can get a bit of advice on how to fix it.

This is a very common problem with ZRs fitted with deadlocking. One of the gear wheels wears/comes lose and then slips. If left too long the cog will eventually fail. If it fails in the deadlocked position the only way to open the door is to remove the door card from the inside and then air chisel the lock off.

Hi

Thanks for the advice I tried locking the car today at work with the key and didn't experience the noise so was starting to wonder if there was a problem with the locks etc but with your help I have now emailed a colleague is a Rover/MG Service Manager so hopefully he should be able to fix it without breaking the bank.
