MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - KV6 Head Gaskets?
Have been reading reports of head gasket failures on the K series engines - so far just the four cylinder versions. Does the same potential problem exist in the KV6 version? Have not heard of it yet but guess the same would apply (or not). Thanks

Barry Depends which KV6. Generally, post the launch of the 75 in 1999 fitted with the revised 2.5L KV6, these are fairly bullet-proof engines with convential head bolt technology compared to the K series and the through-bolt design, so very few instances reported of HGF as compared to either K series or the KV6 as fitted to the earlier Rover 800 which also suffered. The biggest concern with the KV6 is the Variable Intake System (VIS) valves which can fail causing poor running. There are some threads on here regarding this issue. Martin

Thanks for that Martin. I have a late 2003 ZT (2004?) Am looking forward to the upcoming Haynes Manual so I might actually see what the engine looks like instead of peering through the cracks at it. Happy Christmas

Hi Barry, I actually have a second hand VIS if you'd ever like to have a look inside it.
KEW
Hi KEW Thanks for the offer to view VIS sometime. Whereabouts are you in the land? Am heading off to the Wairarapa this weekend. Looking forward to giving the ZT a trip away. Barry
