MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - Excess Rear Near-Side Tyre Wear Rover 75
Bought used rover 75 2.5 V6, had 6 weeks done roughly 1000 miles, noticed wear on rear tyre. Had 4 wheels laser alligned, tyre still seems to be wearing, down to limit, tyres brand new at purchase. Any help you offer would be great. Is it a common fault? Thanks

In order to get accurate wheel alignment on a Rover 75 you must have a full tank of fuel. Was the tank full when you had your alignment done? Did they do a 4 wheel alignment? Are the tyres wearing on the inner or outer edge?

I was unaware that a full tank of fuel would be required, however I believe the tank was almost full at the time anyway, also I had four wheel alignment done. The wear was occuring on the rear nearside outer edge. I have recently replaced the tyre and wearing currently seems to have stopped. Will keep an eye on the wearing now and see how it progresses from now on. However I also have a query on the timing belt, the Haynes manual recommends changing the timing belt every 90,000 miles or 6 years, or 45,000 or 3 years for heavy urban driving. Would it be advisable to follow this recomendation to the book or do the the timing belts last a longer period of time than stated.

The KV6 timing belt should be changed at 90,000 miles or 6 years, whichever comes first. The 6 years is from the date of manufacture, not first registration. If the car is driven hard (e.g. track days) then it is probably wise to change it sooner.
