MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - Engine immobilizer
| The car is a ZS 120. I parked the car up to do some shopping and on my return I found that I couldn't unlock the car using the key fob. I tried it with my spare set of keys as well but no joy, so entered the car by manually unlocking the drivers door with the key. However, although I gained access to the car I couldn't start the engine as the immobilizer couldn't be disarmed. After much faffing about I obtained the emergency Key code and managed to get the engine started. I took the car to the garage who are still an MG dealership and they re-programmed both sets of keys (at great Expense)and everything seemed fine. Personally I didn't think the problem laid with the keys, as for both of the key fobs to fail at the same time seemed too much of a coincidence, but they were adamant that it was a key fault. However the fault has returned in as much that the key fob will unlock the doors but will no longer disarm the engine immobilizer. This means that I can get into the car with no problem but have to re-mobilize the engine using the emergency key code again. Anyone who has had to start their car with the emergency code will know that having entered the code, the car cannot be started until five minutes have elapsed, which is a bit of a pain and just as well it's not being used as a getaway car. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Dave |

| the receiver for the immobiliser signal is a black plastic circular thingy that fits over and around the ignition lock barrel; there's a connector about 20 cm down the wires, check if this is making good connections. |
