MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - Dodgy boot ZS120
The bootlid on my ZS won't stay up when it's open, which means it bangs me on the head every time i go to get something out of it. Anyone had the same problem and know of a solution. Thanks in advance Rich

Have you got a spoiler on the lid? This can make the 'lid too heavy for the springs to maintain the 'lid in an open position. I don't know what others have done to fix the problem - assuming nothing else is actually wrong, you could consider installing a gas strut to assist?

Thanks Rob It does have a spoiler, but it is the more discreet one used on the 120 and not the monster one from the 180, also it doesn't have conventional springs, just some poxy affair with two long rods linking the struts. It has been suggested that i wedge a bit of wood between the rod and the inside of the boot lid on either side to stiffen it all up a bit, but i was hoping for a more permanent solution. Perhaps your idea is the way forward Thanks again Rich

Your boot lid struts have lost the gas you requir new

Saloons have springs that can be fitted in one of three different slots under the rear window section of the boot. However, guillotine effects are long standing and the adjustment on the springs not that effective. The 5 door hatch has gas struts and for the big spoilers there is a stronger spec of strut used. That does work, but is no use to the saloon owner. Rog
