MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - Climate Control

How are others getting on with this? Mine's pretty crap. For a start the engine takes ages before the temp gauge starts to move, and a mile or two before the heater starts blowing warm air. That could be a factor of engine design but it's slower than my MGBs or anything else I have owned. Once it *does* get warm you then get roasted with the fan blasting away for several minutes. Then the cabin stat wakes up to reduce it again, but once the system thinks the cabin is up to temperature it closes the footwell vents and directs all the air to the face-level vents so your feet go cold. This means that every time I go out in the car I'm fiddling the temperature down and back up again and setting the footwell vents to manual, which have to be set back to auto again next time or your feet freeze.

Anyone else have this? It's my first car with climate control but with occasional trips in a Renault, Audi and Toyota I don't notice anything like that.

I've noticed that the climate control works better in our 2004 45 1.6 SEworks better than our 2005 ZS TDI.

It seems to be due to the painfully slow warm-up of the L-series diesel (up to 5 miles in cold weather), which is apparently quite common.

On the 45 it's a great system and the diesel is OK once it's properly warm and settled.

Hi Paul,
Mine seems to behave about the same as yours.
Unless I'm on a long journey, I tend to manually alter the temperature to how I want it rather than what the car thinks is required. Once the system has settled after awile, the climate control does maintain a comfortable temperature.

Charlie.

Ironic, that a fully automatic climate control has about a dozen buttons :o)
