MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - Automatic Car-wash
I have a 54reg. ZR120+ with factory body kit and one-piece rear spoiler: is it safe to put the car through a car wash?

I'd never put any car of mine through an automatic car wash in 40 years, regular use ruins the surface finish if nothing else, and I think that if any damaged is caused it is your bad luck. I've only ever used a hose with brush attachment, or at a pinch buckets of water with the brush removed from the hose.

I would never use auto washes for anything. Those brushes are full of grit ... There must be a hand wash place near you .. Usually ran by illegal immigrants - But they will give it a hand wash for less than an auto wash.

I would also say, don't use one of these car washes in supermarket car parks if your car has a paint protector (e.g. Diamondbrite & Supagard) applied. These "illegal immigrant" car washes quite often use TFR (or equivalent) which can strip off paint protection. BTW we recently supplied a new ZR rear spoiler to a customer that had their one ripped off by an automated car wash.

Thank you for your remarks: but old age and infirmity decided that I should use an automated wash. Used the one in Mitton (Tewkesbury) advertised as Tewkesbury's gentlest car wash. I think there are only two car washes in the area!! I had used it quite a lot in the past on both an XJ6-x300 and a 1999 Astra with no ill effects. On the ZR there were some strange rumblings but nothing came away and the general finish was good. So I shall use it again-infrequently- if and when the car is very muddy.
