MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - Alarm sensitivity on ZR160
One of the little niggles about my car is that the alarm system seems a little sensitive - during the summer I couldn't leave the windows slightly ajar with the alarm set - it would always go off! Not good with a black car parked in direct sunlight. Just lately I have invested in a cheap jetwash - great at removing grime but again tends to set the alarm off when set. (I don't know whether drops of water are getting in and being detected by alarm, or electric field of washer is setting it off). Does anyone else suffer the same? Is there a DIY fix or is it a garage job?

Phil I use a pressure washer at weekends, and although not on my wife's 214, I have set the alarm oof on my previous 75 and on a friend's new shape Vx Corsa. In both cases IIRC, it happened as I passed the jet over the windows or the door panels. Perhaps itis the vibration. MY ZT and 214 do not have the volumetric alarm like the 75, so this I suspect this is the issue. Do you have the volumteric sensors that monitor the interior space in addition to the door sensors? Other problems can be caused on volumetric by little things like a moth, or heat waves in the interior. FWIW Martin

Yes - Martin, having trawled through the archives it seems that MGF owners have the same problem with the volumetric alarm. An interesting fix is proposed with carbon impregnated foam over the sensor area in order to mask the sensors slightly. Has anyone tried this? does it work? where is the sensor in a ZR?

On my previous cars I assume the sensor was the little raised pod on the top of the B post inside the car with what looked like miniature speakers in them. HTH Martin
