MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - abs problem
Hi there The abs on my 52zs120 has started to come on just before the car comes to a halt. I have examined the rings that the sensors pick up and they are both in poor condition . Can these rings which are fitted to the constant velocity joints be replaced on their own or do I need to buy very expensive new joints and then find I have wrongly diagnosed the problem. And yes the car should still have been under rover warranty --- story of my life ---first new car!!! Any help would be gratefully received cheers

I had to have the CV joints replaced, due to cracked ABS rings, earlier this year. I also know of another ZS that has suffered a problem with the ABS rotors. Ralph

Thanks Ralph for your lone reply and you were spot on with your diagnosis. On further examination (this time not lying out in the rain )I found the drivers side ring was indeed split so the costant velocity joint will need replaced. The good news is the local MGR dealer is going to repair it under warranty after a firm but polite interview with the branch manager. The next dilema is do I pay £4000 in October (which was supposed to be its residual value after 3 years ) or do I hand it back, walk away, and go buy a new bargain. Anybody got any thoughts ?? regards iain

I had a reluctor ring on the ABS of my ZS develop a crack just before I PXd it for a new ZR. Also had one go on a Rover 400 a few years ago. Seemed to be a common(ish) problem, but haven't heard of any such problems with newer cars.

Thank goodness car back from garage today (repaired under warranty )with both!! constant velocity joints replaced. Mechanic says this problem is on the increase but thinks it may be possible just to buy the rings. Must investigate and get spares. The other good news is i can now get my MGF back from wife who is getting to like it a bit too much for my liking.
