MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - 180 : Removing cats ?

Hi,

a friend of mine want to remove its cats from the 180. Any informations / tips on this ? Do you know where to buy a "bypass" or "testpipe" for the 180 ?
Thanks in advance !

You would have to reprogram the Siemens EMS to cater for the wrong post cat lambda readings and then having done all of this you might be able to get a couple of BHP!! Changes to the exhaust beyond cat back system changes need to be done on an integrated basis whereby you are looking to alter induction and exhaust systems significantly in order that you can remove similar restrictions and thus gain a reasonable overall gain. This will be very expensive but ultimately you will be looking to achieve over 200bhp. Tuners are getting towards the 260bhp mark now, naturally aspirated with multiple throttle bodies, cams and exhaust changes.

Remember that effectively the heads are the same as the motorsport casting used on K4 engines in terms of valves and ports so this is a good basis, the induction and exhaust is restrictive. problem though is that the extra power is at the expense of torque so you end up with a narrow power band and not much fun except in a light sports car which the ZS and ZT are not. Rather defeats the purpose of the changes.
