MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - 15000 Miles Old

My 105 ZR went in for its first 15000 mile service. I asked the garage to check an oil leak from the engine and also a rattle which happens sometimes when starting first thing in the morning. The oil leak is the drive shaft oil seal which they don't have and have to order one, strange as I would have thought it was the same part as any Rover 25. That is not a great problem it will continue to drip oil on my drive, the rattle from the engine is as the garage described it "it seems to be coming fron the piston area" They are going to talk to MGR and it seems that I will have to have a complete NEW ENGINE not bad after only 15000 miles. The car is my wifes car and is only driven at a sedate pace so it has not been thrashed at all (I drive a MGF myself)
Has anybody else had a new engine after only such a short time

haven't heard of many cars needing a new engine at around that mileage but have heard of a few (both MG and other makes) needing new engines after 2 or 3 thousand as well as those who needed one after considerably more.

An update on my engine problems
The garage have fixed the oil leak with new drive shaft seals. Th engine rattle problem was that the pistons had too much clearence between the rings and the cylinder bore. So they have replaced the pistons and rings. I enquired if this was a common problem and they said it can happen on the 1.4 litre engine. Well I know that when the engine is made there are possibly 4 grades/sizes of piston that can be fitted and it looks like the wrong ones were fitted. Lets hope this fixes the fault or they will be getting the car back. This time I will have to let them know that I had a hand in installing the line in Longbridge and know possibly more about there engine than they do
I hope that this is the end of the problem but I will post any news of what happens
