MG MG Y Type - Yt -Bumper question
Are TD front and rear bumpers the same as a 1949 YT-Tourer for replacement. Also is a TD-TF fuel pump interchangable to a YT. Ron

Hi Ron No they are different. Y Type bumpers have a longer top edge whereas TD bumpers are equal top and bottom. TD fronts have the hole for the starter handle in the middle and also in the bumper support - Y Types have the steady bracket mounted above the bumper. The steady brackets are also different TD to Y Types. Hope this helps you. BTW interesting article in the MGOCC BUlletin - thanks. Paul

Hi Ron If you are unable to source either a YT/YB used front bumper you should be able to get away with using a rear TD bumper. The rear bumper doesn’t have the starting handle hole in the bumper, otherwise it is the same dimension as a TD front. The profile of the TD bumper is slightly different to the YT (as Paul states above) but only an expert would notice the difference and you could certainly get away with having a TD on the front and a YT on the back. In the UK NTG’s solution to replacement bumpers on a YA is to use two rear TD Bumpers and modified bumper irons. The YA did not have over riders as did both the TD and YT/YB and therefore a replacement bumper iron is necessary However, providing you have the bumper irons for your YT you should be able to replace both of your YT bumpers with two rear TD ones. With regard to the fuel pump TD and Y Type pumps are the same, remember both have XPAG engines. Regards.
