MG MG Y Type - YT v YA Distributor
| While re-fitting a YT Distributor, I wondered why these distributors have a spacer ring above the mounting bracket, while the YA have no spacer ring and a longer body instead. Was this done to enable the fitting of a vernier adjuster if required, or was it for some obscure Lucas quirk of manufacture ?. After a little research, it appears that the TC was also fitted with the spacer, so perhaps a TC owner may know the answer. Thanks |

| I am restoring LUCAS distributor in Japan. Kinds are DK4, DKY4A-DM2, 25D, etc. Distributor of DK4 and DKY4A has two? kinds of length inserted in an engine block. A reason is based on the thickness of the adjustment parts used between an engine block and distributor. The docking with a XPAG engine and distributor is a Dog gear. Therefore, it is required to set the gear of distributor and the gear of a cam shaft. The type with a long insertion part to the block of distributor uses a ring about 3mm thick. Distribution of TC is a long type. Since adjustment parts are used for TC, a ring is unnecessary. The numbers of distributor are 40048 and 40162. (AD15jYT is 40089. (AD 15jDistributor of YA imagines that it is probably the same as YT. YB is 40058. (AD17)I attach the file created in Japanese. Please contact me, if you wish acquisition of the ring. |

It is the file which showed the spatial relationship of distribution.
