MG MG Y Type - YT Rear Vision Mirror
| Ever since we acquired the YT in late 2004 the mirror has vibrated at anything over 30kph to the extent it is virtually useless. It is mounted on the windscreen as it should be and the windscreen mounting brackets are firmly secured. Does anyone know how to stop the vibration. There is a slotted domed bolt head where a T Series mirror is mounted in the middle of the scuttle between the two humps and a nut under the dash on the other end. It doesn't seem to have a purpose so I wonder why it's there. Any iseas? Thanks, Rob |

| Two ways you could stop this annoying you Rob - you can send it to me for my YT, or you could try and get an old inner tube and cut four washers out of it and put a rubber washer against the screen, grease up a small metal washer either side, then put the second rubber washer on. Repeat for the other side of the mounting screw and then try and mount to the screen. Effectively you are trying to make a dampener. You can give either a whirl and let me know how you make out! | Rob - photos of the Y-tourer prototype in the Clausager book show the review mirror mounted on the scuttle, so maybe your early car has the hole drilled but not used. As to solutions, get the engine balanced or drive slowly! My TF mirror used to vibrate apallingly and I mostly used the Lucas convex outside mirror to see what was actually hapening behind. Malcolm |

| My mirror also vibrates but not so much that it a problem. I think it a function of where the mirror is mounted and a minor vibration of the windscreen is magnified by the mirror mounting. If I reach up and grip the top of the windscreen the vibration disappears. I also have a hole in the scuttle which is filled with a lift a dot fastener and my car is late. Never could figure out why it was there as the car never had a full tonneau and in any event one fastener would be of no use. Maybe the answer is that it was for an option to fit a TD type mirror as per the TC EXU. Anyone shed more light on this? Terry |

| Rob, An easy fix is a small length of rubber tube that you can wedge between the dome nut at the back of the mirror and the glass. Works a treat and doesn't look out of place. Cheers Richo YT3208 |
