MG MG Y Type - YT Exhaust Front Pipe
I took the YT on the longest trip so far (160 miles) and it ran really well, however, the exhaust system is showing its age. The front pipe almost separated into two pieces. NTG does not list an exhaust system for the YT. Does anyone know if the exhaust for a TC or TD can be used?

Michael Although NTG do not list it, they do carry it ... in small numbers. It is different from the Y in that the flange is at a different offset angle. If you have difficulty getting a YT one from NTG you can also try the MG Octagon Car Club who also carry them. Failing that, buy a Y one, cut the pipe about 1 inch below the flange with a pipe cutter (to get a nice clean bevelled cut, and then mount the flange on the bottom of the exhaust manifold and bolt it up into position, clamp the remainder of the pipe in the rest of the system so that it is positioned correctly, then push the pipe up onto the flange stub, and mark it off with a Sharpie (for UK readers this is a felt tip pen). You can then lower everything out, and I would suggest tack welding the flange in position on the pipe, reclamp the pipe to the system, and see if you are close to the correct angles etc. for the inlet manifold before finally welding round the pipe and flange stub to get a good, gas tight fitting. Always renew the copper gasket on the top of the header pipe and you may also need to renew the studs and nuts on the manifold too. Dont get a TC or a TD header pipe - they wont work. Paul

Thanks Paul, I ordered a pipe from NTG.
