MG MG Y Type - Y's aren't slow?
Yesterday I drove a truly delightful 200 mile touring rally and during lunch I was approached by the Triumph TR3 driver that drove behind me for a while in the morning. He asked what was "under the bonnet" because he couldn't keep up with me! It told him it must have been the driving style that I learned in my mother's Citroen 2CV; never lose gathered speed? The TR3 driver did disappoint me by telling that he had wanted to come in his MG TC but didn't because the TC is to slow. According to him you can't drive that faster than 80km/h (=45mph?). I'm afraid he maltreated his Truimph the same way in not driving it the way it was meant to. Did I mention that we finished second behind a Chapron Citroen DS in a field of 75 cars? I was BTW amazed by the attention the Y attracted surrounded by mostly exclusive classic cars ranging from Lamborghini's through Skoda's and Phantom Rolls Royces.

Willem- Back in '90, when I did the 'Circuit of Britain' with the New England MG T-Register, I remember running down from Scotland through the hills to Glasgow, remarking to my son about the performance of the Y's in the group and how they ran the hills. I was in my TD MKII, VSCCA racer at the time and they NEVER held me up. I have had a couple of YAs, which were sporty, my current YB is the same, though I guess it is sort of a cheat, in that it is fitted with a TF 1500, (single 1 1/2" carb though). I don't hold up traffic!!! Paul TDs,TF,YB,A7s,etc.

Might want to tell that guy I drove 2,500 miles in a TC, mostly at 65-70 MPH!

Willem I had a similar experience when out on a run recently. We all took turns to lead the group and when we made a stop I was asked exactly the same question - our group also included some MGBs, as well as a TD!! What can I say? Show 'em a clean pair of heels! Paul
