MG MG Y Type - YA wheel PCD

Hello folks, does anyone know if the PCD on a YA is the same as a MGA please? Thanks Peter

According to my PCD gauge the Y-Type is 5 stud and just a midgen over 112mm PCD (probably 4 & 3/8 inches, but don't take that as gospel - where is Paul Barrow when you need him ?).

You will probably get an answer on the MGA PCD from someone on the MGA forum, unless we have some lurking here who has an MGA as well as a Y-Type ?.

Can I ask why you are seeking the comparison ?.

PCD YA is about 5x112 on 16" wheels
PCD MGA is 4x114,3 (or 4,5") on 15" wheels

Thank you to AL Slattery and Willem vd Veer for help with my PCD query. I had contemplated the purchase of 15inch MGA wheels for my Y in order to use readily available radial tyres in preference to 16inch cross-ply tyres. However after much thought I have decided to keep the car original. Again thanks to all who replied to my question. Peter

Before I sold my Y I was thinking ahead to replacing the cross-ply tyres with radial, but was concerned about both the available tyres and the narrow 3" rims on the Y.

Longstone Tyres list a number of 15" tyres for the TD which should fit, but some are wildly expensive.

However it is likely that the the rolling radiuswould be reduced and thus gear down the already undergeared Y, when I would rather have geared it up a bit.

I noticed that a number of cars and vans use 5 stud 16" steel wheels including the Mondeo and Vectra and I wonder if these might fit. I know that the PCD on my previous Mercedes C class is the same as the Y. The steel spare wheel fitted the front of the Y and looked as if it would work, but as it was around 200mm wide I'm sure that it would foul on the rear.

Fitting the hub caps might be the biggest problem. I was anticipating having to have the posts for the hub caps turned on a lathe and fixed by nuts inside the wheel.
