MG MG Y Type - YA Starter
| The restoration of the YA moves on, and I may be able to start the engine in the near future, if I had a starter. It appears that the Y series and the TC use a starter that works with a fly wheel with 93 teeth rather then the 120 teeth on the newer cars. So I need to purchase a starter. Does anyone have a suggestion as to where I should look for this item? |

| You are right the early YAs up to engine number 14022 used the 93 tooth starter gear in common with the TC. These cars used the large (three bolts fixing) Lucas M418G starter motors. If you have a later engine with the 120 tooth starter ring then you need the smaller (two bolt fixing) Lucas M35G-1 starter motor. If you lived in the UK I could recommend suppliers here but postage costs would be high to the US. I am certain that somebody ‘stateside’ will assist with suppliers, however, hopefully the Lucas numbers will assist in your search. Regards. David. prman AT mgytypes.org |
