MG MG Y Type - YA Driving light specifications
Does anyone have the Specifications for the single driving light that was fixed to the front bumper. i.e. Size (Diameter), mounting methodology, depth, and manufacturer. I am assuming that the manufacture is Lucus, but that is just an assumption.

Jim It is a Lucas FT57, and as it happens I have a spare if you need one. It will need some fixing (mainly a rechrome) but that can be reflected in the price. I will email you. Paul

Hi Jim I'm pleased to see you ask about a driving light. All too frequently I see and hear references among T and Y owners to a fog light as the auxillary light. I believe that the auxilliary light, in most cases, was an extra driving light. Certainly for export to Australia, where we have very very little fog on the roads, a fog light would not have made sense as original equipment. My TF is a home market model and the switch for the extra light is marked "A" for auxillary not "F" for fog. I hope these comments stir up some discussion so that what was original equipment on Y type and T type models can be verified. On our YT I have fitted two M.G. Z type light mounting brackets to the Z type overriders as one came with the car and I found another to match. (The two YT overriders with the car were rusted out and I needed four for originality but their cost new now is unrealistic.) Thus I have both a fog and a driving light mounted as a mached pair. I felt I needed the driving light and I had bought the pair at an autojumble. See how odd things happen to cars by owners who want performance over total originality!!. I have a matched pair on our TF too for good looks and balance rather than needing the fog light!! All the best Rob

Jim If orginality is important then please be aware that only YAs up to, and including Y 5010 were fitted with FT57s. Y 5011 and all subsequent cars, including YBs were fitted with FT 575s. FT575s are more plentiful than FT57s and consequently slightly cheaper. Regards. David.
