MG MG Y Type - Y Type Retrim
Hi Folks, Just about to order leather and leathercloth for a full retrim. Can anyone tell me what quantity of each I will need...? Seems hides are sold by the square foot but leathercloth by the linear meter...love it! Thanks Rob King

Hi Rob You will need 3 hides - the front seats take 2 on their own. However you will be able, as they did in the factory, to use the left overs for the door pockets if and when you are ready. If you are ordering vinyl for the doors and seat backs that is just an easy up tape measure job to figure out square footage area and possibly if you call Woolies they may already have that figure at their finger tips - sorry I dont. Headliner - again easy way - 1 kit from NTG will do you, of grab a copy of Jack Murray's fitting a headliner book (excellent book £10) has the amount in there I think and you will need this book any way. Good luck Rob Paul

Hi Rob I needed two hides for re-trimming the YT and the suppliers were Brown and Cook Ltd, 77 Allcock Street, Birmingham B9 4DY Telephone 0121-7667117. The hides varied in size, as supplied, and worked out to 5.09 and 5.39 sq mt each. The cost (24 June 2010) was £30.25 per sq.mt + VAT. They also supplied the leather cloth, which for the YT worked out at 7.3 metres (its sold on 1m (I think) wide strips @ £15.54 per lin.mt + VAT, Measure the panels and allow for extra 10-20% I would suggest. The delivery time was only 2 working days and you will need to look at their samples to find out exactly what colours you require. The sundries and hardware, adhesives etc you can obtain from William Marston Ltd, 70 Fazeley Street, Birmingham B5 5RD and their website address is www.williammarstonltd.co.uk . They provide white piping (for the seats, hidem banding (though the narrow strip which I think is 3/8" width is apparently no longer available so you'll end up with 5/8") and headlining - anyhow you'll see it all on their website. I don't know what the cost of the headlining kit from NTG is or what it contains. It will more than likely have been bought in, so if you go to Marston's you will be able to see, feel and obtain everything that you need under one roof and there will be no delivery time etc. Both companies are within a stone's throw of each other in Digbeth, Birmingham and you can park outside. Have fun! Sincerely Jerry
