MG MG Y Type - Y Type Information
| Dear All, Back on a previous BBS Thread I was critical of the online data base on the IMGYR and amongst one accusation, was accused of being "paranoid" and not least probably "unpopular" Since then having seen the light (smelt the roses) changed colours. I have seen the benefits of such a service, having made enquiries recently about an MG Y Type for sale and made contact with a vendor and was told details of the car. I did some digging and the details were not on the IMGYR and were not on DVLA data base either (If they were I could not find!) The vendor also stated that the car was not known to the Y Register, but then that there had been a split and two registers existed, and it were known to one but not the other. It then occurred to me what a "great" research tool the data base is on the IMGYR and also how "open, transparent with information that the IMGYR really are in helping Y Type owners". In a day where governments are becoming more open with legislation such as "Freedom of information Act 2000" here in the UK, crime mapping etc etc and with car clubs asking for information off owners, I ask... "wouldn't it be good, if the flow of information was fed the other way?" from car club organisations back to members/interested parties! It would also be of benefit to all, if clubs such as Octagon Car Club, IMGYR and MGCC Y Register shared information and that this information were viewable by their members online such as how the IMGYR have taken a lead here and with many other sources of information shared digitally. Provided individual privacy is adhered to I see this transparency as good thing for the mutual benefits of all, whether a prospective buyer or seller of a car or just someone with an interest. Any thoughts here would be appreciated. NB.Before a member of the MGCC Y Register stand to correct me, I am aware of the yearly "Registrars report" and the spread sheed of engine numbers that exist, plus the list in the back of Lawsons book. etc. Regards Richard |

| Dear Richard, Having read some of your recent posts, It bothers me that you seem to have some kind of a hidden agenda. Although many of your points are valid, it has been said before that these boards are not the place for political arguments. I suggest you let the Y Community decide. As can clearly be seen the IMGYR have more cars shown on their database 3,144 compared to 1,700 odd for the MGCCYR. A lot of the argument you elude to have been had on previous threads, the MGCCYR is a site to serve solely those of the car club and is designed as such. Going from previous threads the arguments started over the web master of the IMGYR leaving the club, and from there it has prospered beyond and above all expectation. Unlike the the new sibling site, it is dogged by committee each pulling in opposite direction, this is the sad truth of committees. As for the view Plagiarism, you can't claim copy right of colour/theme etc etc, but I've never seen a site with colour scheme such as the one shown or a navigation system used it is odd and who ever designed the site had poor judgement.
