MG MG Y Type - Y Type Chassis

I have been reading "MG T Series In Detail" by Paddy Wilmer. An excellent book full of usefull information and good photos. One detail however had me scratching my head, so I thought I would ask here. On page 91 he explains how the YA had a chassis that was underslung at the rear axle and the YB chassis swept over the rear axle. Is this right?

Cheers, Matthew.

Incorrect. The YA/YT and YB all share the same chassis.

Thank you Paul, that is what I thought.

There are a few minor differences between YA/T and YB that are worth spending a short while on though:
a) YB incorporated U channel for front antiroll bar under front extensions,
b) bolt holes for front shock absorbers are different,
c) Bracket at firewall was different because of new shock absorbers,
d) Full width bracket under front cross member,
e) A steel plate welded to top & bottom flanges (driver's side only) for new brake master cylinder,
f) Small welded on brackets for metal pipe to flexible pipe connections
g) No panhard rod brackets as noted above,
h) Different mountings for rear shock absorbers
i) Brake pipe clip hole drilled to forward right chassis member, and
j) other minor suspension related changes.

For more information - see David Lawrence's "Let there be Ys", page 23.

At least it make's Willem's entry on stamps exciting doesnt it?

I knew the Y's IFS was designed by Alec Issigonis, but I'm surprised that his Minor suspension was fitted to the YB..... (LOL)
