MG MG Y Type - XPAG Crank oil seals

Hello, I am just about to rebuild the engine in Y4002.
I purchased most of the components through the Octagon Car Club. Knowing the XPAG's reputation for oil leaks from front and rear oil seals, is it worth fitting the modern Lip seal conversions? or should I continue to rely on the original ones from the new gasket set?. At the moment, I dont know the condition of the surfaces on the crank.

Front seal lip seals are good but fill both the ring in the sump and the front chain cover with silicon RTV first to fill up the gaps nicely.

On the rear, what are you proposing to use there?
When I was in the UK I fitted a B&G rear seal kit but the back of the engine had to be very closely machined by a shop first which pushed the costs up tremendously.
Since coming to the US I have now fitted 3 rear seals hand made by Ermit Stearnes here in Redmond, Washington, USA. All he requires is your end cap and he matches everything to that. His seals have been extremely easy to fit and so far 100% effective so are highly recommended whereas the B&G still leaks ... albeit minimally.

If you are interested I will ask Ermit if he would like to do another. He is a retired Boeing Engineer and has all the kit at home to do this stuff ... and being a former Y owner himself knows what he is doing.

Let me know on or off line.

Many thanks for your prompt reply. I shall certainly try your advice for the front seal. I have read the various articles on oil leaks etc. in the technical support section of the site. I should have read them before posting the query! Doh!

Any idea of cost of the rear seal that you have used? (USD or £ sterling)

Also, I have recently read an interesting article in the MGOCC Bulletin on negative pressure in the crankcase using parts from an "A" series engine. Apart from the originality issue, would this modification be worth it?

Before I make a decision, I'll check the crank.
