MG MG Y Type - windscreen winder

Has anyone got any tips on removing and refitting windscreen winder mechanism, any short cuts please. Or is it a dash out procedure?

You have to take the dash rail and side rails off to get at the windscreen winder mechanism - it is held by 2 small bols at the windscreen end of the chain and 2 larger bolts beneath the rail. What problem do you have with it?

David, It's a problem a friend of mine has, having recently replaced his screen rubber (which previously was sealed closed with silicon) he now finds that the screen will wind out, but needs assistance to close. He does have a spare mechanism that apparently works ok.

David is right - side bits and base rail need to come out. Before you do that though you might want to have alook at how easy the wiper knobs are to unscrew the grub screw as they can be the most difficult part of this operation. They can be sacrificial though as I have a few spare ones.
